What is Food and Friends?

With the help of volunteers, Food & Friends prepares and delivers nutritionally tailored, delicious meals directly to homes. Community dietitians and professional chefs work closely to provide individualized services to clients. Food & Friends provides meals, groceries, and nutrition counseling to people living with life-challenging illnesses. All meals and services are free-of-charge to the client, their dependents, and caregivers.

How do I volunteer?

Food and Friends has many different volunteer opportunities that can fit your busy schedule and interests. All individual volunteers must first attend an orientation, submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination, and undergo a criminal background check to get started. Food and Friends asks for at least a 6 month or 20 hour commitment from all individual volunteers.

Food and Friends needs drivers who use their own vehicles to bring food to clients across the region. A typical delivery route is six to ten households and can take between one to three hours.

Food preparers are also essential. Volunteers are needed for all stages of food preparation, from chopping vegetables to packing groceries. Shifts are generally two to three hours.

Food and Friends also requires administrative help. If you enjoy filing, data entry, stuffing envelopes, making phone calls or helping with administrative projects, this is the place for you!

Food and Friends also has seasonal internship and skills-based volunteer opportunities.

There are many ways for young people to gain service hours for school or to get the whole family involved.

Volunteers of all ages can join their adult family members delivering meals to clients’ homes, making this an ideal volunteer opportunity for parents with young children. Volunteers must be at least 14 to work in our kitchen preparing and packaging meals.
